HR Strategy and Business Strategy Alignment for the successful HR Business Partnering

The HR Strategy has to be aligned with the business strategy. Even better, the HR Strategy should be a natural part of the business strategy, but it is not quite common yet. The HR Strategy is created as an appendix of the business strategy as HR Team prepares the strategy on its own.

The HR Strategy is usually prepared as the appendix. The HR Team studies the business strategy and the team brings a nice and efficient HR Strategy, which is guiding Human Resources and HR Business Partners. This approach is fine, but the strategy is just working for Human Resources as the managers and the business leaders are not involved in the process of the design of the HR Strategy.

The HR Business Partner in the HR Business Partnering model has to win another approach. The HR Business Partners have to be the part of the core team preparing the business strategy. As they are the part of the team, they create the business strategy, which includes the ideas and proposals from Human Resources. As the overall business strategy is a guiding document for all the functions in the organization and the top management closely monitors the progress of the implementation, the managers have to focus on HR Issues automatically.

When the HR Strategy is not the natural part of the business strategy, it is not a document for the whole organization, it is just a simple task list for Human Resources, which has no respect from the business leaders. They have to feel the buy-in from their side to support the HR Strategy. The HR Strategy has to be a chapter in the business strategy and it has to be naturally connected with other parts of the business strategy.
